The wind-mitigation inspection
There is a Florida form the carrier actually reads.
It is not a coupon. It is not a roofing ad. It is a Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form — OIR-B1-1802. Inspectors doing new visits on or after April 1, 2026 use the revised version. Someone qualified walks the house, checks how the roof is tied down, how the deck is attached, whether the openings can take a two-by-four at 140 miles an hour, and writes it down.
There's coverage for that house either way. The form is how Florida asks whether the house was built, or later made, to fight wind. What a carrier does with the answers is their filing, not a blog promise. We will not tell you it "saves hundreds." Some features never credit. The form itself says so.
What they are looking at
Roof covering. Roof shape. Roof deck. Roof-to-wall — clips, single wraps, double wraps, or a performance number on the new sheet. Secondary water barrier. Opening protection: shutters, impact glass, or nothing but a screen and a prayer.
That list is construction, not marketing. A hip roof is a different wind story than a gable. A 2005 re-roof is a different story than a 1994 permit. Central Florida is not the Keys and it is not immune. Winter Park still sits in a wind map.
If you replaced the roof last year and the paper in the file is from 2019, the file is lying. OIR says the inspection can last up to five years if you did not change the structure and nobody found a mistake. Change the structure, start over.
What it is not
It is not a policy. It is not a windstorm deductible waiver. It is not flood. It is not a Citizens application by itself. It is not permission to skip opening protection because a guy on Facebook measured your clips from the driveway.
It is also not DIY. Florida lists who may sign. Check the license. A form with a mystery name at the bottom is how credits bounce and claims get a second argument.
How this shows up at review
Bring the current 1802 if you have one. Bring the permit for the roof. Bring photos of straps if you can see them from the attic without dying. If you do not have an inspection, say that. A licensed 2-20 can tell you whether the carrier in front of us even uses the credits the way you hope. This page does not quote. This page does not bind. This page does not guarantee a number will move.
If you are shopping because a storm is on the map, read the cone article first. A mitigation form will not open a market that already froze.
