Florida no-fault, in one minute.

PIP pays your medical. It does not fix the other driver’s bumper.

Florida is still a no-fault state. The 2026 session did not repeal it. If you read a post that said PIP is gone, that post was wrong. Most registered vehicles still have to carry personal injury protection and property-damage liability. That is the law talking, not a sale.

There's coverage for that crash. You have to know which coverage you are pointing at.

What "no-fault" is actually doing

After a wreck, your own PIP is supposed to pick up a share of your medical bills and some lost wages, up to the limit on the form, whether you caused it or not. It is first-party. It is not a lawsuit. It is not pain-and-suffering. It is not a body shop.

It also has clocks. Florida expects you to see a qualifying provider quickly after the crash. Miss the window and PIP can refuse the whole medical file. We are not your clinic. We are telling you the form is timed.

PIP is also not unlimited. The statute sets a floor. Emergency-medical-condition rules can change how much of that floor you actually reach. A blog will not diagnose you. A licensed 2-20 will not either. Bring the declarations page and the ER paperwork.

What it is not

The other car. Property damage liability is for the other person’s bumper when you are at fault. Collision is your bumper when you hit something, if you bought it. Comprehensive is hail, theft, the parking-lot mystery — weather and non-driving mess, if you bought it. None of those are PIP.

The house. Hail still hits two policies. A wreck is not a homeowners claim because you were driving home. We already wrote the driveway version of this mix-up.

A product pitch. Gumbo is not leading with personal auto because it photographs well. This page is here so Central Florida drivers stop calling every check "insurance" and then wondering why the hospital and the body shop are not the same claim.

Liability is the other half of the sentence

No-fault was never "nobody is liable." It is "your medical starts on your PIP." Bodily injury liability, uninsured motorist, and whether you can step outside no-fault after a serious injury are separate questions. Those belong with the form and, when someone is hurt, often with a lawyer. We do not practice law. We do not quote limits in a caption.

If you only carry the legal minimums, you have the ticket-avoiding layer. You do not automatically have a rebuilt Civic or a paid-in-full hospital stack. Those are optional lines people skip until the tow truck is already there.

What to bring when you request a review

Who is on the policy. What you drive. How you use it. Current declarations. Any recent claim. We review Florida auto the same way we review property: same day when the market is open, no prices on this page, no bind from a blog.

Call (321) 295-7639. Gumbo Insurance Agency LLC is a licensed Florida independent agency. Tell us whether you mean the hospital or the bumper. There's coverage for that. It just is not all named PIP.
